The Texas Department of Transportation’s Boerne Maintenance Office is hiring a Transportation Maintenance Crew Chief to guide a dedicated, high-performing team. Responsibilities
  • Assists in administration of the maintenance section.
  • Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
  • Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.
  • Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment.
  • Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.
  • Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
  • Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent in general education.
  • 5 years of experience in roadway maintenance related work; experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Valid driver’s license and Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an "N" endorsement from date of application.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with "N" endorsement
  • Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Methods and procedures involving storage & transport of hazardous materials
  • Design, testing, and quality control of materials used in construction and maintenance of highways and related structures
  • Applicable surveying procedures, standards, and instruments
  • Incident management procedures
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Maintenance contract inspection procedures
  • Operating light and heavy highway equipment
  • Performing calculations to include material and labor estimates, expenses, technical survey data and engineering calculations
  • Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
  • Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment
  • Prioritizing and organizing work assignments
  • Interpreting applicable information
  • Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
  • Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
  • Maintaining a safe working environment
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals
