Job Description & How to Apply Below

Purpose The purpose of this position is to educate elementary-aged children (Kindergarten Prep and Kindergarten) in the foundations of learning using classical methods and a biblical worldview in order to prepare students with excellence to pursue God’s truth, knowledge and wisdom, and to do so with diligence and perseverance.

Summary The Grammar School provides instruction in an educational environment where students develop a love for God’s created order as they discover the truth, goodness and beauty of His world through methods consistent with the first stage of the classical approach to learning known as the trivium. This includes teaching the fundamental elements of each subject area in order to build a framework of knowledge which will serve as the foundation for skills learned in Logic School (the second stage of the trivium), and Rhetoric School (the third phase of the trivium).

The GS teacher and Instructional Assistant will lead, instruct, disciple, and mentor students in a manner consistent with the School’s Statement of Faith and the Portrait of a Geneva Teacher. This position is to support Kinder-Prep and Kindergarten teachers and students. Students will build phonological and phonemic awareness skills, letter‑sound knowledge, rhyming, number sense, fine and gross motor skills. They will develop listening and oral language skills through enhanced exposure to stories and literature.

Our program is play‑based with many hands‑on activities that develop reading, math, writing, and listening skills while preparing students for kindergarten.

Supervision Received and Exercised The Instructional Assistant receives direction from the GS Headmaster, GS administrative team, a grade team leader, GS KPrep & Kindergarten Teachers and mentor. The GS Instructional Assistant must exercise judgment that is in keeping with Geneva’s philosophy of education, beliefs, and values and with the approved curriculum. The GS Headmaster or designee will offer instruction, advice, direction and mentoring.

The work is reviewed regularly and consistently.

Work Schedule This is a full‑time, academic year position. In general, the workday is 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for ten months. However, as an exempt employee, the employee is expected to work beyond the workday to perform duties outlined in the job description and as assigned. There is a mandatory faculty meeting once a week from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is also a mandatory grammar school retreat during the week of in‑service.
