The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Electrical Technician specializing in control panels, point‑to‑point testing, calibration, and VFD programming. This role supports commercial HVAC systems by ensuring accurate wiring, testing, commissioning, and optimization of electrical and control components.
Key Responsibilities- Perform point‑to‑point wiring verification and testing for HVAC control panels and field devices
- Install, wire, and terminate control panels, MCCs, sensors, actuators, and field equipment
- Program, configure, and commission Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for HVAC applications (fans, pumps, compressors)
- Set parameters for speed control, ramp times, PID loops, fault handling, and energy optimization
- Calibrate HVAC control devices including temperature, pressure, flow, and humidity sensors
- Troubleshoot electrical, control, and communication issues (RS485, BACnet, Modbus – if applicable)
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and sequences of operation
- Support startup and commissioning activities for new and retrofit HVAC systems
- Ensure all work complies with NEC, local electrical codes, OSHA safety standards, and project specifications
- Document testing results, calibration data, and programming changes
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training preferred
- 3–5+ years of experience with HVAC electrical controls and VFDs in the industrial set up and working in the wiring harnesses and control panel assembly in the factory.
- Strong understanding of control panels, relays, contractors, I/O, and low‑voltage systems
- Hands‑on experience with VFD brands such as Copeland, ABB, Danfoss, Siemens, Schneider, Yaskawa, or Allen‑Bradley
- Ability to perform point‑to‑point testing and system verification independently
- Proficient with electrical test instruments (multimeter, clamp meter, laptop/software tools)
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Able to work independently in the factory and coordinate with engineers/project managers
- Valid US driver’s license
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS/DDC) preferred
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Electrical license or journeyman certification (where applicable) preferred
- Commissioning or startup experience on large HVAC commercial units
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working on rooftops, mechanical rooms, and construction environments 20% of the time
- Ability to stand, kneel, and work with hand tools for extended periods
