Overview
The Academy, part of The Fuller Center School, is seeking a full-time Cook to provide a delicious and nutritious food program for hundreds of children and staff daily. The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and bend as needed, read and communicate in English, and maintain Safe Food Handler certification within 60 days of hire and continuously thereafter.
The Cook works independently and with a team and reports to the Chef while taking directions from other team members as needed.
- Assist the Chef/Food Service Director in the preparation and service of meals and report maintenance requests to the Food Service Director and Director of Operations.
- Prepare food in compliance with USDA Food Program meal pattern requirements.
- Assist in record-keeping required by the USDA Food Program.
- Maintain standards of order and cleanliness daily in the kitchen and storage areas in compliance with Health Department standards; ensure the kitchen remains clean and free of clutter for monthly inspection with the Food Service Director.
- Learn and assist in the procedure for weekly food and supply orders.
- Receive, inspect and properly store food and supplies delivered to the site.
- Help ensure that no food or kitchen items are taken from the kitchen or storage room for any purpose other than feeding the children and staff.
- Learn and assume duties of other team members in their absence.
- Be responsible for workspace safety, cleanliness, and upkeep daily.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of items and containers up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with all children, co-workers and guests in both nonverbal and verbal styles.
- Positively represent Florence Fuller Child Development Center to the public and to visitors.
- Complete all documentation legibly, accurately and thoroughly.
- Apply acquired knowledge and techniques from training in all work efforts.
- Serv Safe Certification (or comparable). Other duties as assigned.
- Must obtain Safe Food Handler certification within 60 days of hire and maintain certification ongoing.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; able to stand and be on one’s feet for extended periods.
- Must be able to read and communicate in English.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Reports to the Chef but takes directions from other team members as well.
