About the role
This role is responsible for performing a wide range of clinical laboratory testing on neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient specimens. The Medical Laboratory Scientist works with a high level of independence, exercising professional judgment while ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant reporting of laboratory results in an acute care hospital environment.
The position supports quality patient care by adhering to established protocols, regulatory requirements, and professional standards, while maintaining laboratory equipment and participating in quality assurance activities.
Key responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing on blood, tissue, and body fluids using automated and manual methods
- Conduct testing across one or more laboratory disciplines, including chemistry, hematology, immunology, immunohematology, and microbiology
- Ensure accurate, timely reporting of test results in accordance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements
- Maintain laboratory instruments, documentation, and quality control records
- Perform quality assurance activities related to test performance
- Comply with applicable state laws, regulations, and scope of practice for Clinical Laboratory Personnel
- Deliver high-quality laboratory services in both hospital and affiliated emergency care settings
Qualifications
Required:
- Active Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (State of Florida)
Preferred:
- Education and/or experience meeting Florida licensing requirements for Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- 1–5 years of experience as a Medical Technologist in an acute care hospital laboratory
- Experience rotating through multiple laboratory sections
- Successful completion of a color vision assessment prior to employment
