Overview
Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum (Assistant/Associate Professor) at the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) College of Medicine. The position leads and oversees the Year 1–Year 4 undergraduate medical education (UME) clinical curriculum, coordinating with the Assistant Dean for Preclinical Curriculum, serving as Year 3 Curriculum Director, and overseeing the Year 4 curriculum in collaboration with the Year 4 Curriculum Director.

- Lead the planning, development, organization, and delivery of the clinical curriculum so that content, pedagogy, and assessment methods align with educational objectives.
- Oversee the Year 1 and Year 2 Foundations of Medicine courses in collaboration with the primary course directors.
- Oversee Year 1 and Year 2 threads that are predominantly applicable to the clinical curriculum as determined by the Associate Dean for Medical Education.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Preclinical curriculum to optimize integration and coordination of Year 1 and Year 2 preclinical and clinical curriculum as appropriate.
- Serve as the primary director for all aspects of the Year 3 curriculum, including the introductory Synthesis and Transition course, weekly academic half-day sessions, all clinical clerkships, and student assessment activities.
- Provide administrative leadership to ensure a coordinated and comparable curriculum for all medical students across Year 3 and ensure compliance with LCME accreditation standards across longitudinal clerkships.
- Assist the Director of the Community Preceptorship Program with recruitment, assignment, evaluation, and development of faculty as needed.
- Oversee the Year 4 curriculum in collaboration with the Year 4 Curriculum Director/Co-Directors.
- Collaborate with clerkship, rotation, and clinical site directors to ensure comparable and high‑quality learning experiences and clinical learning environments.
- Serve as the College of Medicine’s liaison for UME clinical education, facilitating communication between the Office of Medical Education and affiliated clinical site administrative teams.
- Oversee the assignment of Year 3 student clerkships and Year 4 student rotations and collaborate with the Year 4 Team, GME Teams, and COM Registrar regarding the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) process.
- Assist in developing annual faculty teaching assignments and recruitment of faculty for clinical teaching roles.
- Monitor faculty teaching performance and provide effective evaluation feedback to support ongoing professional development.
- Work with the Office of Medical Education’s administrative support team, directly supervising assigned staff members and providing development opportunities as applicable.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical curriculum components meet LCME accreditation standards.
- Promote a culture of respect and collegiality, including transparent leadership decision-making, professionalism, and adherence to the College of Medicine’s policies and values.
- Serve in additional roles as determined by the Associate Dean for Medical Education and/or the Vice Dean for Medical Education to support the Office of Medical Education and learner success.
- Engage in direct teaching of medical students and other applicable learners in areas of expertise.
- Engage in medical student mentorship activities and oversee mentorship events.
- Represent the clinical curriculum on College of Medicine committees and lead stakeholder meetings as applicable to the clinical curriculum.
- Serve on other College of Medicine and University committees as requested.
- Conduct scholarly work related to medical education and/or other areas of interest and expertise on a path to promotion in academic rank.
