About This RoleResponsible for assisting prospective and continuing students with student development services in a centralized advising support center. Utilizes technology to enhance processes and promote outreach and retention of students. Performs receptionist, clerical, record-keeping, and related duties in support of student development departments college-wide. May be required to work a fluctuating schedule, including nights, weekends, and other campus locations.
What a Day in the Life of a Student Development Representative Looks Like- Welcomes guests to the department and provides assistance as needed. Explains College rules, requirements, and procedures to prospective and current students relevant to student support programs and services.
- Maintains user access and data integrity of student success platforms; supports data and reporting needs for academic advising services.
- Provides support with technical functions of academic advising’s third-party applications and software.
- Assists students through in-person, phone, email, and online chat communications; handles inbound calls and timely voicemails.
- Enters student information into the appropriate database and assists with applications and registration portals.
- Searches student records for required information, reviews documents for completeness and accuracy, and makes appropriate referrals.
- Provides current information on College and departmental services and programs; logs and updates service requests; escalates inquiries when appropriate.
- Responds to appointment requests and schedules student appointments with the appropriate advisor.
- Attends meetings and trainings and maintains current knowledge of programs and systems.
- Acts as a backup by learning other staff duties as necessary.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of related experience
- Microsoft Office Professional or similar application
- Delivering a high level of customer service
- Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
- Use independent judgement to understand the logistics of available timeslots to book appointments
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage expectations, and provide high levels of service
- Interact positively with diverse populations and varying education levels
- Work in diverse settings to deliver services without a drop in performance
- Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness
Special Requirements
- Regular physical attendance required
- Must complete FERPA training within 30 days of employment
- Some periods throughout the year will require extended work hours including nights, weekends, and college closures
- Reach and grasp objects
- Use of video display terminal
- Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills
- Communicate information orally and in writing
- Understand information through oral and written communication
- Proofread and check documents for accuracy
- Work a fluctuating work schedule
