Overview

Perioperative Registered Nurses/Circulators are clinically competent, registered, professional nurses who have demonstrated expertise in the perioperative field. They effectively deliver perioperative care to the surgical patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Supervised by the Surgical Services Unit Charge Nurses and the Director of Surgical Services.

• Uses the nursing process to plan and provide comprehensive safe patient care
• Assesses the patient

• Collaborates with other members of the health care team in planning care
• Educates and instructs patient and family
• Conscientiously and continuously applies nursing principles in patient care
• Participates in performance improvement activities

• Administers medications, blood and blood products according to policy and procedure in collaboration with anesthesia
• Administers treatments, ensuring proper positioning, prepping, and safety of patient before, during, and after procedure
• Ensures sterile technique is maintained at all times, communicating with team and surgeons for patient safety
• Performs patient care, scrub or circulating duties as assigned, adhering to ARON standards and recommendations

Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing

• Must possess a current license as a registered nurse in the state of Alabama
• Must have current BCLS certification
• Recommended ACLS and PALS certification
