Lab Assistant, Marshall Medical Centers South, PRN, Shift Varies

Overview

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, coordinates clerical and nursing home functions including scheduling, collection, staffing, computer registration, order entry, printing, charting, mailing, faxing and filing of reports. Responsibilities also include accessioning pathology/cytology specimens, answering telephone inquiries, ensuring accurate charges and billing, conducting employee competency testing, reviewing and updating procedure manuals, training clerical staff, timely submission of charts to coder, and reviewing nursing home monthly bills for accuracy.

• Coordinate clerical and nursing home functions including scheduling, collection, and staffing.
• Handle computer registration, order entry, printing, charting, mailing, faxing, and filing of reports.
• Accession specimens and answer telephone inquiries.
• Ensure accurate charges/billing and conduct employee competency testing.
• Review and update procedure manuals and train clerical staff.
• Submit charts to coder timely and review nursing home monthly bills for accuracy.

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED preferred).
• 2 years clerical experience (1-2 months on-the-job training).
• Strong verbal communication ability with patients and clientele instructions.
• Numerical ability to calculate by formula.
• Finger dexterity to handle paperwork and keyboards.
• Dependable and detail-oriented.
