Position Summary: The Transportation Supervisor oversees Direct Store Delivery (DSD) drivers, ensuring efficient routing, compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations, and adherence to company policies. This role includes hiring, training, and developing drivers, monitoring performance, and promoting a strong safety culture. The supervisor will manage delivery schedules, optimize routes using dispatch software, and ensure accurate documentation and timely deliveries.
Primary Responsibilities Driver Management & Route Optimization- Supervise and coach drivers, monitor productivity, and provide feedback.
- Plan and adjust delivery routes using routing software (e.g., Work Wave) for cost efficiency and on-time performance.
- Review and approve time-off requests, process payroll timecards.
- Ensure compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), and company policies.
- Track and report KPIs such as on‑time delivery %, cost per mile, and safety incident rates.
- Conduct quarterly driver assessments and ride‑alongs.
- Assist with quarterly driver meetings and training sessions.
- Perform driving duties when necessary to maintain service levels
- Provide driver training as needed.
- Assess each driver at least once per quarter.
- Assist the Transportation Manager with quarterly drivers’ meetings
- Promote safety awareness and compliance.
- Responsible for knowing and understanding DOT Rules and Regulations and knowledge of FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.
- Investigate accidents and near misses in collaboration with the Transportation Manager.
Equipment Certification
- Class A CDL License
- Forklift, Reach Truck and Electric and manual jacks. (Material Handling Equipment)
- Proficient in Electronic Computer use to include proficiency in Microsoft Suite Software to include Excel Spreadsheets; knowledge of Great Plains Software would be helpful; comprehension and ability to utilize warehousing scanning equipment and software packages
- BS/BA in Business Management or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years in transportation or logistics supervision.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
- Must be in good physical shape with high stamina and dexterity
- Able to lift 50 lbs. plus (+)
- Ability to climb various types of ladders
- Good hand dexterity with both hands
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Able to bend and stoop easily
- Excellent eyesight with very good peripheral vision
- Able to work long hours when necessary; work overtime as needed
- Able to withstand extreme warehouse and outside temperatures of cold or hot
