All About General Merchandise

Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

Role Summary

At Target, we believe in meaningful experiences that help team members build and develop skills for a career. The General Merchandise Expert role provides opportunities to develop guest service, retail fundamentals, and operational skills.

• Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest first culture across the store
• Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
• Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

Responsibilities (Typical Day)

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests during daily tasks and assisting with their needs
• Engage with guests to help solve questions and ensure a positive shopping experience
• Thank guests and reinforce that Target values their choice to shop with us
• Execute daily tasks assigned by leadership to support goals, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing backroom, merchandise setup, and promotional signage for GM areas
• Operate power equipment for moving merchandise or fixtures if certified
• Change prices, maintain merchandise setup and accuracy, and manage inventory as directed
• Learn how procedures affect inventory, store profitability, and product availability
• Know resources, products, and services to solve guest issues and improve their experience
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety and compliance; work safely and report hazards
• Support guest services including back-up cashier and digital fulfillment (picking/packing orders, delivering pickup orders) while complying with laws
• All other duties based on business needs

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb ladders and move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds
• Flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays; reliable attendance required
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions while performing duties
• Ability to remain mobile for scheduled shift duration
