LOCATION

Palo Verde College is located in Blythe, a desert oasis adjacent to the Colorado River. The valley’s mild climate and proximity to Phoenix, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border attract many visitors.

NATURE OF THE POSITION

The Nursing Program Director is an Educational Administrator reporting to the Associate Dean of Nursing & Allied Health. The Director plans and oversees the Nursing Education Department’s instructional and support services, including budget development, curriculum, accreditation and compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to develop, organize and operate the nursing program and implement consistent program policies.
  • Maintain Registered Nursing Program accreditation and lead preparation of reports for licensing agencies.
  • Develop and implement curricula to prepare students for the nursing field.
  • Arrange off‑site clinical instruction facilities and manage contractual agreements with agencies.
  • Maintain contractual relationships with local health organizations.
  • Lead curriculum development, review and revision for currency and relevance.
  • Review instructional programs for compliance with state/federal law, regulations, BRN rules and community needs.
  • Promote nursing programs and recruit qualified applicants; implement student selection and admission policies.
  • Enforce student discipline, maintain records, and guide students toward licensure exams.
  • Prepare and administer the department budget.
  • Recommend purchases of supplies and equipment for the program.
  • Mediator in conflicts among Assistant Director, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborate with other schools of nursing and healthcare community partners; publicize the program.
  • Preside at nursing advisory committee meetings.
  • Facilitate acquisition of new technologies for classroom and workplace.
  • Call nursing staff meetings as needed; serve as liaison with Assistant Director.
  • Attend professional conferences; plan and organize in‑service educational programs.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
  • KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of: California State Board of Nursing regulations, National League for Nursing accreditation standards, California State Board of Vocational Nursing regulations, current nursing educational trends, diverse nursing career pathways, relevant education codes, healthcare industry trends and policies suitable for a community college setting.

    Abilities to: Advise students with diverse backgrounds; monitor and evaluate program compliance; establish effective relationships with students, staff and community; communicate orally and in writing; adapt curriculum to changing healthcare needs; serve as an effective leadership team member.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s or higher degree in nursing, education or administration from an accredited institution.
  • One year experience in an administrative position.
  • Two years’ experience teaching in pre‑ or post‑licensure nursing programs.
  • One year experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care (or equivalent).
  • Hold or be eligible for California State licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Valid and active California license as a Registered Nurse.
    • Valid California driver’s license.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Ph.D. in Nursing Education from an accredited institution.
    • Progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education, preferably a community college.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • Typical administrative job in an office setting.
