Join VELUX Commercial as Drawing Office Manager, based at our Blyth site in Northumberland, and help to build brighter and more sustainable indoor spaces that create well‑being for both people and the planet.

As Drawing Office Manager you will lead, motivate and develop our projects drawing office team, ensuring consistent delivery to customer expectations while cultivating a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

What You Will be Doing:
Team Leadership & Management
  • Lead, mentor and support a team of project draughtsmen, ensuring clarity of expectations and consistent performance.
  • Allocate workload effectively across the team to meet project deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and implement development plans to support individual and team growth.
Customer Satisfaction & Competitiveness
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to understand customer needs and ensure the drawing office delivers exceptional service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the customer experience and proactively address service gaps.
  • Introduce innovative, market‑leading initiatives and tools that enhance our drawing office capabilities and strengthen our competitive position.
Operational Efficiency & Development
  • Analyse existing processes and implement improvements to increase speed, efficiency and reliability of drawing office operations.
  • Oversee the integration of new technologies, software and best practices to modernise and optimise workflows.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience managing a technical or drawing office team.
  • Strong background in drafting, design or engineering (sector‑specific experience beneficial).
  • Proficiency in relevant CAD software and drawing office systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver process improvements and manage performance metrics.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience of roof lights and glazing systems beneficial.
Role Tasks and Activities
  • Handover meetings with Estimating to review project information.
  • liaise with customers, architects, suppliers etc to gain the necessary details for a comprehensive drawing submission to agreed timescales, including site survey information.
  • Prioritise and allocate drawing office workload.
  • Check drawings where necessary, coordinating with technical, production and site to ensure drawings and details are workable.
  • Follow up drawing submissions to ensure they are received and offer assistance, also chasing up client approval in line with programme.
  • Attend design meetings where necessary.
  • Attend site surveys where necessary.
  • Ensure we have a standard drawing library of common approved and accepted details for use in drawing office, including standardising drawing layouts and required information levels to provide unambiguous information.
  • Once approved, ensure accurate and complete drawings are issued to production within acceptable timescales to maintain the customer programme.
  • Review any special purchasing requirements and glass etc and ensure these are issued to purchasing, in accordance with the programme.
  • Ensure a comprehensive fixers pack is available for the site management/installation team with sufficient information to aid the setting out and on‑site assembly of our products.
  • Attend the weekly project management meetings with updates on progress with all projects.
  • Attend quality meetings with particular emphasis on NCRs raised towards the drawing office to provide corrective and preventative actions.
  • Carry out periodic review of completed projects to measure performance and costs.
  • Attend the twice‑yearly contracts review meeting with production, site and contracts department.
