Are you passionate about helping children with additional needs thrive? Do you want to play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, emotional wellbeing, and behaviour in a nurturing specialist setting? Milk Education is working in partnership with a fantastic primary SEND school in Blyth to appoint a Learning & Behaviour Mentor to join their dedicated, child-centred team.

About the School

This welcoming, specialist primary provision caters for pupils with Autism (ASD), complex learning needs, sensory needs, speech & language difficulties, SEMH needs, and behaviour that may at times be dysregulated.
The school is committed to creating an environment where every child feels safe, understood, and able to make meaningful progress.

They achieve this through:

  • Highly skilled, specialist teaching and a flexible, well‑resourced curriculum
  • Close teamwork with therapists, external agencies, and families
  • A strong emphasis on communication, emotional regulation, and building trusting relationships
  • A whole‑school approach that celebrates individuality and supports pupils to express themselves confidently

Joining this school means becoming part of a compassionate community where staff work collaboratively to make a genuine difference every day.

Role:
Learning & Behaviour Mentor

You will work closely with the Class Teacher, SEN practitioners, and wider staff team to support pupils’ learning, engagement, and emotional and behavioural regulation throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow school policies, safeguarding procedures, and individual support plans
  • Provide support with pupils’ personal care needs where required (feeding, hygiene)
  • Assist in delivering learning activities — adapting tasks, scaffolding understanding, and helping maintain focus
  • Support the regulation of pupils who may present with challenging or dysregulated behaviours
  • Build positive, safe, and trusting relationships to encourage communication, independence, and confidence
  • Promote emotional wellbeing through consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and de‑escalation strategies
  • Observe, record, and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and daily achievements
Essential Criteria
  • Recent experience supporting children or adults with SEND, ASD, SEMH, or complex needs (education or care settings welcome)
  • Comfortable providing personal care when required
  • Calm, patient, resilient, and able to remain consistent under pressure
  • Strong communication skills and a team‑focused approach
  • A nurturing, adaptable attitude and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
Why Work with Milk Education?
  • Support and guidance if you wish to progress into a permanent school role
  • Free classroom resources to support your work
  • 24/7 access to your own dedicated consultant
  • Training opportunities and CPD to enhance your skillset
  • Proud to be an eco‑friendly, purpose‑driven agency committed to rewarding and valuing our staff

If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact and support pupils to learn, regulate, and flourish, we’d love to hear from you.
