Core Job Functions
- Coordinate with hospital and outside physicians for surgical procedures. Maintain liaison with disciplines such as social services, dietitians, speech therapy, physical therapy, pastoral care, and palliative care. Schedule appointments and procedures related to radiation therapy.
- Ensure patients understand their disease, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care plans. Facilitate communication between physicians and patients when gaps are identified.
- Maintain equipment and facilities, ensuring safety and infection control standards are met.
- Assist physicians in radiation implant procedures and other special procedures, including pre- and post-procedure assessments and device removal. Maintain sterilization of equipment.
- Reinforce physician advice regarding treatment reactions and care. Involve patients and families in planning. Address learning barriers, readiness, and cultural issues affecting understanding.
- Conduct assessments and comprehensive reviews of patient history, measure and document vital signs, and perform medication reconciliation.
