Principal Function:
The Director of Mayor’s Office & Communications is responsible to serve as the central operational, communications, and community-relations hub for the Mayor’s Office, combining executive-level administration and control of the Mayor’s schedule, responsibility for the communications and public messaging, and community and intergovernmental interface of the Mayor and City.
- Maintains full control of the Mayor’s calendar, appointments, meetings, and travel.
- Protects the Mayor’s time by serving as the gatekeeper for access to the Mayor, prioritizing requests based on urgency and alignment with City-related goals.
- Prepares meeting agendas, briefing materials, and follow-up task lists.
- Tracks commitments made by the Mayor and ensures timely follow-through.
- Coordinates scheduling with Department Heads, regional partners, and external organizations.
- Drafts, edits, and coordinates public communications, including letters, announcements, proclamations, statements, talking points, and responses to ensure the Mayor’s messages are clear and consistent.
- Serves as the authorized point of contact for routine communications on behalf of the Mayor.
- Manages and/or coordinates social media posts and digital messaging related to the Mayor’s Office.
- Maintains and updates content on the City website related to mayoral initiatives, events, and announcements.
- Assists with podcast, newsletter, and public information efforts.
- Coordinates Media inquiries and press logistics, as directed by the Mayor.
- Serves as the primary intake point for resident inquiries, concerns, and requests.
- Logs, routes, tracks, and monitors resolution of constituent issues.
- Identifies recurring themes or emerging concerns and briefs the Mayor accordingly.
- Coordinates community meetings, public forums, ceremonies, ribbon cuttings, and outreach events.
- Represents the Mayor’s Office professionally with residents, businesses, nonprofits, and governmental partners.
