JOB DESCRIPTION:
Diesel Generator Technician
Dean Fluor is looking for a Diesel Generator Technician to join our maintenance team working at a state‑of‑the‑art, mission‑critical government data center. The technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing generator sets, troubleshooting issues related to electrical and mechanical systems through diagnostic tests, performing site testing and engine servicing, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring all work complies with health and safety protocols.
The technician guarantees that generators are available for emergency operations 24/7 and reports to the maintenance supervisor.
the Diesel Generator Technician job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsibilities- Run load bank tests on diesel generators
- Change filters, oil, coolant, and perform standard service on units
- Maintain equipment operation by completing inspections, preventive maintenance requirements, correcting deficiencies, keeping records, diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
- Determine equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts, and general troubleshooting
- Complete preventive maintenance schedules, install components, perform parts upgrades, correct deficiencies, maintain appearance, and keep records of time by task
- Diagnose and repair any issues found during testing
- Assist with other duties as required
This position is considered sensitive and may require extensive background screening processes in order to meet current or future Network and/or government contract needs. Job Requirements / Skills- At least 5 years of experience as an industrial diesel engine mechanic
- In-depth understanding of diesel engine technology
- Experience working with large industrial diesel engines and related equipment
- Ideal candidates will have 4+ years of experience working with Caterpillar
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on large commercial and industrial diesel engines
- Exceptional communication skills and a team‑player mentality
- Willingness to work overtime as necessary to complete tasks
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders, equipment/tool manuals, safety manuals, and other printed and/or written material as it relates to the job
- Ability to input information into computerized maintenance and time‑keeping databases
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at elevations, on ladders, and on lift equipment over six feet above the ground
- Must carry a two‑way radio when on duty to enable prompt emergency response
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the job site
- Must conform to all city, state, and federal licensing and certification requirements
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards
- Must be a team player committed to working in a quality environment
- Requires excellent verbal, written, multi‑tasking, and presentation skills in English
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision
- Ability to stand for long hours and lift heavy loads of 50 lbs
- Must perform other miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested
- Must be able to achieve and maintain TS/SCI security clearance
- Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period
- Relocates a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance
- Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders
- Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis
- Possesses good vision (may be corrected), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools
- Tells when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, focusing on recognition rather than problem solving
- Applies general rules to specific problems to produce meaningful answers
- Combines pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding relationships among seemingly unrelated events)
- Sees details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
- Listens to and understands information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
