Job Description:

The Shop Quality Leadman is responsible for overseeing daily quality control activities on the production floor, ensuring all manufactured battery trays meet company and customer specifications. This role serves as the first point of contact for shop floor quality issues, assists in training employees on quality standards, and works closely with supervisors and quality inspectors to maintain a high level of product integrity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, guide, and support shop floor employees in adhering to quality processes and standards.

  • Inspect in-process and finished battery trays to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.

  • Assist in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for non-conformances.

  • Maintain quality records, inspection reports, and related documentation.

  • Train employees on quality procedures, inspection techniques, and defect prevention.

  • Work with the Quality Manager and Production Supervisor to improve processes and reduce scrap/rework.

  • Ensure tools, gauges, and inspection equipment are calibrated and in good working order.

  • Serve as liaison between production and quality departments, escalating issues when necessary.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the shop.

  • Enforce company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or associate degree preferred.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of manufacturing or quality assurance experience, preferably in metal fabrication or automotive components.

  • Strong understanding of quality inspection methods, measurement tools, and blueprint reading.

  • Experience with welding inspection, coatings, or material handling a plus.

  • Leadership or leadman experience in a shop environment preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and management.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Working knowledge of ISO standards and lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
