Position Summary: As a member of the School Counseling Department, the counselor will develop, implement, and assess school counselor programs that improve student outcomes. The school counselor will lead, advocate, and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. They uphold the ethical and professional standards of ASCA and implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program that supports the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students.
- This position reports to the Building Principal
- This is a Full Time (182-day calendar and 13 extended days), benefits-eligible position.
- The salary range for this position is $53,571.43 - $). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
- Staff in their first or second year of total service as a teacher are eligible to participate in a new teacher induction stipend of $1,250 for 50 hours of approved training outside of the school day.
- Fully certified staff with more than two years of experience teaching in a Missouri Public School may be eligible to participate in the Career Ladder Program and may earn $1,500-$5,000 for approved work outside the school day.
Essential Functions:
- Implement the district school counseling curriculum.
- Implements the MO DESE School Counseling Program.
- Supports the academic, career, and social/ emotional development of all students through the delivery of the Missouri School Counseling Curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services, and system support.
- Upholds ASCA School Ethical and Professional Standards.
- Assists students in applying academic achievement strategies.
- Helps students manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills.
- Assists individual student academic planning and goal setting.
- Conducts school counseling classroom lessons based on MO Learning Standards for School Counseling.
- Provides short-term counseling to students, individual and group.
- Supplies information on referrals for long-term support.
- Collaborates with families’/teachers’/ administrators/ community for student success.
- Advocates for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings.
- Provides data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges.
- Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement, and opportunities for all students.
- Attendance is required at some school events held outside of school hours.
Other Functions:
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education/Experience/Certificates: Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Meet Missouri state certification/licensure standards.
Teacher experience preferred. School Counseling experience preferred.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
