Position Summary:

  • This position reports to Building Principal
  • This position is a Full-Time, benefits-eligible position.
  • The salary range for this position is $43,500 - $93,500.
  • Salary will be commensurate with Education and Full-Time teaching experience.
  • Staff in their first or second year of total service as a teacher are eligible to participate in a new teacher induction stipend of $1,250 for 50 hours of approved training outside of the school day.
  • Fully certified staff with more than two years of experience teaching in a Missouri Public School may be eligible to participate in the Career Ladder Program and may earn $1,500-$5,000 for approved work outside the school day.

Essential Functions:

  • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
  • Teaches District-approved curriculum, plans lessons, special education programs, and teaching methods.
  • Monitors students’ progress in and outside the special education room.
  • Maintains the physical environment of the classroom conducive to students with special needs.
  • Prepares for classes assigned.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students with special needs.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains contact with parents of students.
  • Monitors and manages student behaviors.
  • Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives, and directions.
  • Prepares report cards, educational records, IEPs, classroom observation records, and other forms.
  • Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of referrals in the Special Education Program.
  • Instructs and assists students with multiple disabilities.
  • Adapts classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Administers subject specific assessment and tests for the purpose of assessing the level of students' competencies.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Analyzes test data for the purpose of enhancing student achievement by directly impacting instruction.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, administration and/or to seek the assistance of district specialists.
