Primary Objective
Provide excellent customer service while safeguarding campers and program staff utilizing prevention measures and responding in the case of an emergency at Camp Kota. Lifeguards monitor and assist with beach swim time and other aquatic activities, such as key log rolling and paddle boarding. Camp Kota lifeguards are under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and the work direction of the Camp Kota Coordinator.

- Assists with carrying out the scheduled weekly camp program.
- Performs special assignments and other work as assigned by the Coordinator.
- Teaches and promotes respect for and understanding of the environment.
- Teaches and promote high standard of safety, particularly in regard to dangers of water.
- Works as a team member to ensure the program’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
- Follows staff policies and procedures.
- Completes all other duties as assigned by Recreation Supervisor.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must be currently certified in Lifeguarding or a certified Lifeguard Instructor, or have ability to complete training.
- Must be available the entire season from June 24 – July 31 (Monday-Friday). (No programs July 2-5)
- Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check.
- High school diploma and some post‑secondary course work in related field.
- Prior experience as a lifeguard.
- Previous recreation experience, preferably in a camp setting.
- A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities so they can participate fully in City sponsored Parks and Recreation programs.
This is a limited duration PT position mainly operating July 6-July 31st in the afternoons. Applicants may attend Bloomington Family Aquatic Center Training and gain additional hours (if desired) at the Aquatic Center.
Bonus IncentivesCommitment Bonus – A seasonal employee who works all four sessions of camp will receive $100 bonus.
Referral Bonus – A seasonal employee who refers a new seasonal employee will receive $100 bonus on their final paycheck. Referral paperwork required within one week of employee start date and both employees must be employed for the entirety of the scheduled season to be eligible.
