Overview
Primary Objective
The City of Bloomington seeks a Lifeguard to work under the direct supervision of the Assistant Coordinator, providing excellent customer service while safeguarding patrons from drowning and other accidents. The Aquatic Center season runs from May 19 – August 23, with training in early May and opening date of June 6.

- Report to work on time
- Enforce facility rules and regulations
- Operate appropriate safety equipment
- Administer CPR and first aid as required
- Monitor and respond to aquatic events
- Perform basic ongoing cleaning duties throughout the day
- Treat patrons with courtesy and respect
- Attend scheduled in-services and trainings
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Possess or have the ability to pass Lifeguard Certification
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for Lifeguards
- American Red Cross Waterfront and Waterpark Lifeguard certificates
Bloomington Family Aquatic Center: An outdoor aquatic center that includes a 50 meter, eight-lane lap pool, zero-depth entry with water play features and tot-slides, diving well with diving boards and drop slide, two tower looping waterslides, and concessions stand. Dates and times:
May 19 – August 23, 2026, open seven days per week, 5:45 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
This position does not supervise others.
Anticipated Hiring Range$18.00 – $20.00 Hourly
Incentives- Commitment Bonus – A seasonal employee who works until at least August 20 will receive $100 on their final paycheck.
- Referral Bonus – A seasonal employee who refers a new seasonal employee will receive $100 on their final paycheck. Referral paperwork required within one week of start date and both employees must be employed for the entirety of the season to be eligible.

Additional InformationOngoing Part-Time employees who are employed for more than 6 months will contribute to the PERA pension program via payroll deductions unless exempt. Part-Time employees may receive Paid Time Off (PTO) as outlined in the employee handbook and may be eligible for paid parental leave after 6 months of employment. Temporary/Seasonal employees do not receive benefits outside of PTO as outlined in the handbook.
