Overview
The City of Bloomington is accepting applications for Park Maintenance Seasonal positions for Summer 2026. The City is seeking individuals to perform various types of manual labor and equipment operation in Bloomington parks: mowing/trimming, forestry work, athletic field and picnic shelter prep. Positions work 40 hours per week (with the possibility of overtime). Shifts may include days, evenings, or weekends.

- Operates, inspects, and maintains equipment and tools such as dump trucks, steel wheel rollers, pickups, air compressor with related tools, chain saws, shovels, rakes and miscellaneous equipment; provides routine service maintenance where needed (grease, oil, gas, etc.)
- When directed, assists in maintenance duties in any of the five Public Works Maintenance Division sections
- Keeps assigned lead informed of important developments concerning assigned functions
- Maintains effective working relationships with other employees and the public
- Responsible to work overtime, shift changes, or be on call as necessary or assigned
- Adheres to and keeps current on safety rules and procedures, and any work rules and policies pertaining to the Park Maintenance Division
- Performs job responsibilities in climatic extremes, in confined spaces, and/or from aerial lift equipment
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as apparent or assigned
- Turf Maintenance:
- Utilize large and small mowers to maintain turf areas
- Operate weed whips, fertilizers, tractors and other equipment as needed
- Aerate and overseed large scale fields
- Utilize hand tools and power tools to accomplish tasks
- Daily and weekly mower maintenance during growing season
- Athletic Field Maintenance:
- Grooming:
Drag infield skin and warning track areas with tractor and tools - Rebuild/reshape clay mounds and home plates
- Grade athletic fields and hockey rinks with various equipment
- Build and install base anchors; edge, broom, blowout, weed removal
- Layout and paint fields; repair fencing, backstops, padding
- Weed control using various methods
- Build and install soccer goals and netting
- It will be mandatory for employees to work occasional weekends and evenings to support games and tournaments throughout the year
- Facility Operations Maintenance:
- Set up for shelter reservation events; clean facilities
- Clean and maintain restrooms, disinfect, sweep and mop floors
- Operate floor scrubbers and other equipment
- Backpack blow outdoor dining areas; clean tables
- Maintain cleaning inventory and place orders for supplies
- Empty trash and recycling bins; monitor trash needs and address vandalism
- Support pool needs at BFAC and splashpad; vacuum and test pool water; clean deck; assist minor repairs
- Landscape Maintenance:
- Formal landscape maintenance: design, installation, pruning, weed control, seasonal clean-up, watering, mulching
- Construction: build/repair fences, gates, signs, walls, bridges
- Irrigation: manage and maintain irrigation systems; seasonal start up and winterization; testing and adjustments
- Community Gardens: tractor tilling, water tank filling, compost removal
- Archery Range: inspect/repair targets and shelters
- Parking Lots: assess conditions; weed control; debris removal
- Project Assistance: complete miscellaneous tasks for Park Maintenance projects
- Playground and Court Maintenance:
- General maintenance of playground equipment and court amenities
- Use of various tools; assist with repairs and replacements
- General maintenance of playground and court surfacing
- Forestry:
- Support aerial bucket and clam truck operation
- Operate commercial chipper
- Diamused tree inspections; pruning and removal practices
- Raking and leaf blowing; safe work zone setup
- Operate front-end loader/skid steer; PPE usage
