Tax Advisor – Stevens Foster Financial Advisors

The Tax Advisor provides tax preparation, review, and analysis for our high‑net‑worth and executive clients. The role handles individual, fiduciary, trust, estate, gift, and entity returns; develops tax projections; conducts research; and ensures compliance with all relevant tax laws and reporting requirements.

Working closely with Financial Planners, Advisors, and Investments teams, the Tax Advisor contributes to our coordinated Planning–Tax–Investments model, supporting precision, accuracy, proactive communication, and strong documentation—all essential to our high‑touch, relationship‑centered client experience. The advisor also serves as a primary point of contact for complex tax matters, representing clients before the IRS and state tax authorities and owning the resolution of audits and advanced compliance issues.

Key Responsibilities Tax Preparation & Review
  • Prepare and review individual, trust, gift, and entity tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Oversee preparation processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Develop quarterly and annual tax projections and estimated payments.
  • Review cost basis calculations and required minimum distribution (RMD) calculations.
  • Present tax strategies, planning recommendations, and complex tax concepts directly to clients, and support advisors in client meetings as needed.
  • Assist advisors with tax‑related questions and planning input.
Research & Compliance
  • Research legislative and regulatory tax changes and communicate their impact to internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate tax documentation, procedures, and supporting work papers.
  • Ensure compliance with all current tax laws and regulations.
  • Resolve client IRS and state audits.
Represent on behalf of clients to IRS and state tax agencies
  • Review cost basis & RMD calculations.
  • Provide guidance to internal client managers for tax topics & changes.
Process & Workflow Support
  • Recommend improvements to tax preparation workflows, documentation standards, and client deliverables.
  • Assist with technology use and organization of tax files, work papers, and e‑filing processes.
  • Provide guidance to Tax Associates on return preparation, documentation, and best practices.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience preparing tax returns for individuals, trusts, estates, or entities.
  • CPA designation preferred or active progress toward completion.
Technical Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of individual, fiduciary, and estate taxation.
  • Proficiency with tax and research software (e.g., BNA, Lacerte, RIA Checkpoint, Tax Book, Sorban).
  • Familiarity with Advisor Engine/Junxure for documentation and workflow management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Compensation
  • Base salary: $65,000 – $100,000 annually, depending on experience.
  • Bonus:
    Performance‑based opportunity available.
  • Robust benefits package: medical (PPO and HSA options with 85% employer‑paid employee coverage), 100% employer‑paid dental for employees, voluntary vision, employer‑funded HSA contributions, company‑paid life and disability insurance, pre‑tax FSA options, 50% employer coverage of Minnesota Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) premiums, and a 401(k) with up to a 5% employer match after one year of service.
Schedule
  • Full‑time, Monday through Friday.
  • Additional hours required during peak tax‑season periods.
  • Hybrid work option available in accordance with firm policy.
