Recreational Sports is part of the Office of Student Life, which is dedicated to supporting students' health, safety, and success throughout their IU experience. The Recreational Sports mission is to connect, inform, and inspire individuals to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer wide-ranging programs across 2 multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more.

Our team includes 46 professional staff and over 800 student employees.

The Trip Leader provides support for assigned adventure trips based on certifications and experience.

• Manage opening and closing procedures for the shop
• Manage gear inventory, maintenance, cleaning, and repair
• Communicate with incoming and outgoing customers
• Provide customer service and manage general office operations
• Assist with IU Outdoor Adventures (IUOA) annual Gear Sale
• Plan and prepare logistics for leading activities like backpacking, kayaking/canoeing, rock climbing, and more
• Oversee group dynamics and safety
• Manage pulling, packing, and returning equipment for trips
• Report to the Skill Development Coordinator
• May be responsible for other special projects/events as deemed necessary by IUOA Administrators

Required

• Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University

Preferred

• Retail experience
• Customer service experience

Required

• Strong customer service skills and a desire to serve others
• Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail to support inventory process, keep shop and rental gear areas organized, and maintain paperwork
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook)
• Demonstrates strong leadership
• Demonstrates problem-solving ability

These positions require sitting and maintaining attention for long periods of time and frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working both indoors and outdoors and ability to move objects up to 50 pounds with assistance. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Eigenmann Hall Outdoor Adventure Center
Bloomington, Indiana
This is an in-person position.

$13.35 per hour

Minimum of 4 hours per week, not to exceed 29 hours per week across all campus positions.

Flexible scheduling is available and may vary by position. Early morning, evening and weekend shifts may be required.
