Overview

Bradford Woods (BA-BRAD-IUBLA) is Indiana University's Outdoor Center, located just 30 minutes north of IU Bloomington on 2,500 acres of wooded land with a 110-acre lake. The Office of Student Life aims to help students have a positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful experience. Bradford Woods shares this commitment by promoting learning and belonging through all programs, interactions, and partnerships. The facility hosts over 400 programs annually and offers a unique outdoor environment for staff and visitors.

The General Food Service Worker role supports kitchen operations, with responsibilities that include dishwashing, food preparation, cooking, and assisting cooks as needed. Team members work to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen and ensure meals are prepared and served to high standards.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares food items according to menus and portion sizes under direct supervision.
  • Measures, weighs, and prepares ingredients using manual or electric appliances; washes, peels, slices, and trims foods as needed for meal preparation.
  • Cooks and assembles menu items following established standards.
  • Washes dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment; maintains proper sanitation practices.
  • Assists cooks and other kitchen staff during meal service as needed.
  • Ensures the kitchen is stocked with necessary supplies and cooking equipment; promptly notifies supervisors of low inventory or equipment issues.
  • Maintains a clean and functional kitchen by cleaning equipment, appliances, and work areas, removing trash, and sanitizing containers.
Education and Experience
  • Required: General knowledge at the high school level
  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
  • Preferred: Customer service or teamwork experience
Skills
  • Working knowledge of preparation methods for a variety of foods and basic kitchen sanitation and food safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret recipes and calculate ingredient quantities
  • Ability to learn to operate institutional kitchen equipment
  • Ability to coordinate preparation and timing for menu items
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to remain stationary for extended periods and perform light to medium physical tasks in hot working conditions. Duties involve using kitchen equipment and tools, moving supplies weighing between 15-30 pounds, and maintaining high standards of personal hygiene. The person in this role must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.

Application and Schedule Details

Applications are accepted immediately and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Training begins on February 15, 2026. This is an in-person position based in Martinsville, Indiana. Compensation ranges from $12.25 to $15.50 per hour, depending on position. Hours are between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM, Sunday through Saturday, with flexible scheduling based on availability.
