Overview

IU BLOOOMINGTON HOSPITALITY (BA-HSPY-IUBLA) – IU Dining and Hospitality embraces Indiana University's core values of education, innovation, and tradition, embodying Hoosier hospitality. IU Hospitality brings the university campus to life through professional dining, retail operations, and catered events at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU). IMU dining serves the Tudor Room, Sugar and Spice, The Vault Pub, and the Globe, working with hotel, catering, and retail dining teams to reflect the Hoosier spirit in every customer interaction.

Responsibilities

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Under the instruction of a Lead Cook, prepare cook-to-order meals.
  • Prepare and serve food items according to standardized recipes and portion sizes.
  • Help ensure the station is stocked with supplies for the meal.
  • Work with standardized recipes and follow instructions to prepare and serve food for their station.
  • Some recipes may involve the use of alcohol in preparation.
General Responsibilities
  • Under direct supervision, prepare food items according to menus and portions to be served.
  • Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators and storage areas; transport items as needed.
  • Weigh or measure ingredients; use manual/electric appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim foods; wash, peel, or cut various foods as needed.
  • Ensure the kitchen is equipped with necessary food and cooking items for scheduled meals; inform supervisors when supplies are low or equipment is not working properly.
  • Clean galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to maintain cleanliness and safe operation.
  • Remove trash and clean kitchen garbage containers.
  • Train and assist new employees; assist in other kitchen departments as time permits.
Education
  • Required: General knowledge at the high school level

  • Previous experience in related field
Licenses and Certificates
  • Required: Food Safety (Serv Safe) certification within 180 days from date of hire

This position involves back-of-house food service work with periods of sedentary work and times of frequent movement. Tasks use commercial kitchen equipment and may require lifting 20 to 50 pounds. Work may occur in hot or cold environments with loud noises and may include handling meat and plant-based products and common allergens. The role requires the ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.

Variable shift position; hours generally between 12:00 pm and 1:00 am. Management reserves the right to adjust hours for special meals and events.
