Overview

Residential dining staff strive to enhance the customer experience through innovative in-house recipes, partnerships with local and regional producers, and a commitment to nourishing the IU community in a service-oriented, collaborative culture.

Residential dining staff work closely with teams in retail and Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) dining to ensure consistent procurement of products that match student preferences and dietary needs.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares and serves food items according to standardized recipes and portion sizes.
  • Helps ensure the station is stocked with supplies for the meal.
  • Works with standardized recipes and follows instructions to prepare and serve food for their station.
  • Prepares food items according to menus and portions under direct supervision.
  • Receives and stores food supplies, equipment, and utensils in appropriate storage areas.
  • Carries food supplies, equipment, and utensils to and from storage and work areas.
  • Weighs or measures ingredients and uses manual or electric appliances to prepare foods as needed.
  • Cleans, peels, slices, and trims foods and maintains kitchen cleanliness and organization.
  • Assures that the kitchen is equipped with all necessary food and cooking items for scheduled meals.
  • Informs supervisors when supplies are low or equipment is not working properly.
  • Trains and assists new employees and assists in other kitchen departments as time permits.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    General knowledge at the high school level (Required); some positions may prefer additional experience.
  • Work Experience
    :
    Some experience in a related field (Preferred).
  • Licenses and Certifications
    :
    Food Safety (Serv Safe) certification required within 180 days from date of hire.

This position involves back-of-house food service work with periods of sedentary work and frequent movement, use of commercial kitchen equipment, and exposure to hot and humid conditions. It may require handling meat and plant-based products and allergens. The role requires the ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.

Location, Schedule, and Compensation

Bloomington, Indiana

$15.00 per hour

2:30pm – 11:00pm, Monday – Friday, with alternating weekends.

Management reserves the right to adjust work hours for special meals and events. A shift premium of $1.50 per hour applies for hours between 2:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. if at least 6 hours are worked during those times.
