Overview
Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) seeks a motivated and innovative Flow Cytometry Analyst to manage the IUB Flow Cytometry Core Facility (FCCF). The facility supports life science research on the IUB campus and beyond. Key instruments include the Cytek Aurora Spectral Cell Sorter, Sony SH800 Cell Sorter, CytoFLEX LX Cell Analyzer, MACSQuant VYB Cell Analyzer, and COPAS Select large particle sorter. This role serves researchers across multiple departments including Medical Sciences, Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, and Chemistry.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for oversight and maintenance of flow cytometry instrumentation, assay development, training, and facility operations.
- Establish, modify, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for routine maintenance and performance evaluation of flow cytometers and related instrumentation.
- Independently perform instrument setup, sample acquisition, calibration, alignment, and troubleshooting.
- Oversee instrument repair and service coordination.
- Maintain detailed documentation of instrument performance, service logs, and corrective actions to ensure optimal operation and data reliability.
- Train students and investigators on cytometry concepts, including instrument startup/shutdown, routine maintenance, sample acquisition, and basic data analysis.
- Educate users on sample preparation requirements tailored to their research goals and designs.
- Support users in developing technically sound and biologically relevant cytometry-based approaches.
- Collaborate with the Director and investigators to develop, evaluate, and optimize multicolor flow cytometry assays, including high-parameter panels.
- Work independently or collaboratively to design and validate novel analytical methods with emphasis on accuracy, reproducibility, and biological relevance.
- Manage laboratory resources, including supply ordering and inventory control.
- Oversee compliance with institutional safety policies related to chemical, biological, and instrument operations.
- Support budgeting, cost-recovery tracking, fee development, and reporting metrics.
- Stay abreast of emerging cytometry platforms, analytical software, reagents, and immunological techniques.
- Evaluate and implement new tools for flow data analysis and reduction; train users on software solutions as needed.
- Engage in continuing education and present innovative methodologies to enhance the FCCF's impact on cutting-edge research.
General Responsibilities
- Analyze flow cytometry data and/or sort cells using FCCF technology.
- Mentor new users on the use of FCCF instruments.
- Advise on experimental designs and project troubleshooting.
- Perform and interpret quality control procedures, instrument function checks, and maintain records.
- Perform housekeeping, materials stocking, waste disposal, and reagent preparation for cell sorter operation.
- Process and determine acceptability of specimens for testing.
- Perform instrument troubleshooting.

Education
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in biological sciences, chemistry, or a comparable field)
Work Experience
- 3 years Flow cytometry analysis or cellular research history.
