Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical position at an acuity-adaptable unit requiring Cerner proficiency,
PCU experience, and comfort with team nursing in a boarding unit environment.
- Acuity-adaptable unit serving patients ranging from MS to PCU/stepdown/ICU levels of care
- Boarding unit where patients arrive from the ED and are held until discharge or transfer to an inpatient unit — patients on this unit are stable
- Patient ratios range from 1:4–6 depending on acuity and patient type; unit can expand from 4 beds up to 8–10 beds based on need
- Team nursing model with RN/LPN collaboration depending on acuity and staffing
- Float position — may float to an inpatient PCU unit when census on the boarding unit is low, as well as within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Cerner EMR — experience required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications — AHA and RQI formats accepted
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU experience required due to float responsibilities
- Cerner charting experience required
- Comfortable with team nursing and delegation to LPN staff
- Nursing degree from a program accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
- Provide nursing care to stable boarded ED patients across varying acuity levels, including MS, PCU, and ICU-level patients
- Staffing support may include a CNA or LPN depending on acuity and ratio
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO of 5 days or fewer may be auto-approved
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
