Location: Bloomington Hospital - Outpatient Oncology Infusion Center

Position: RN - Ambulatory Team Lead

Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00a-4:30p Required to staff 2 days/week (40% administration/60% Clinical)

We are seeking a dedicated clinical leader to oversee ambulatory nursing teams, support staff development, and promote high standards of patient care.

Position Overview

The RN-Ambulatory Team Lead reflects IU Health’s mission, vision, and values, adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance. This role is responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care across the outpatient setting, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Team Lead serves as the lead clinical nurse, coordinating with leaders, providers, and team members to deliver exemplary care to all patients.

The nurse ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and professional nursing standards, including the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Operations Management:
    Direct daily workflows, ensures efficient patient throughput, and manages clinical resources in a cost-effective manner. Resolves operational issues, manages schedules, and facilitates departmental meetings and huddles. Serves as a positive role model for staff and upholds the IU Health Values.
  • Leadership, Staff supervision, and Development:
    Leads a team of RNs, LPNs, and Medical Assistants. Creates work schedules, conducts performance reviews, develops action plans, provides mentorship or clinical coaching and feedback. Identifies educational needs and coordinates with RN-TL educator and CNS.
  • Regulatory Compliance, Safety, and Quality:
    Assures the clinic meets all Joint Commission and state regulatory requirements. Leads quality improvement initiatives, enforces medical record documentation guidelines, and monitors all policies within practice.
  • Patient Care Advocacy:
    Monitors patient flow and resolves patient or family concerns promptly through service recovery.
  • Administrative Liaison:
    Communicates between clinical staff and department leadership, identifies potential policy change, and reports department productivity.
  • Hiring and Onboarding:
    Manages the recruitment process for new clinical staff and oversees their initial orientation and competency training in collaboration with RN TL educator and CNS.
  • Clinical Support:
    Performs all duties of an RN (vitals, injections, nursing procedures, specimens, lab draws, line access, etc.) and provides guidance and oversight to nursing staff to ensure safe evidence-based patient care.
  • Problem Solving:
    Addresses patient issues and team challenges.
  • Resource Stewardship:
    Manages clinical supplies, oversees equipment maintenance, conducts charge audits, and assists in monitoring the department budget to minimize waste.
  • Supports Staff:
    Builds a strong, positive team environment, fosters open communication, and maintains low turnover.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Optimizes patient experience through commitment towards meeting the organization’s mission, values, and vision.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASN) required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure &

Certifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per department policies.

Experience &

Skills:

  • Two years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of outpatient procedures, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple functions effectively for a group of patients.
  • Understanding of the legal implications of nursing activities and performance standards.
