The Incumbent will collaborate with the Department’s small staff, City colleagues, business sector, arts community, and other community partners to develop, oversee, and implement a broad range of special projects. The position will help develop, implement, and assess these projects and must be adaptable to different areas of focus.

Duties Primary
  • Assist in the implementation of the department's goals.
  • Provide project support for the ESD Director, Assistant Director For the Arts, and Assistant Director of Small Business Development.
  • Engage with other City departments throughout project development and communicate about project logistics.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external community partners.
  • Develop fact-based recommendations regarding the effectiveness of the project and recommend modifications, including assessing and reporting on project impact.
  • Complete assignments in a timely manner; working independently and efficiently, while remaining current on applicable ordinances, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • I dentify and propose other strategic initiatives as the need becomes apparent.
  • Serve as ESD Departments Public Information Officer inside City Hall and support communications best practices within the department regarding social media, newsletters, and document accessibility.
  • Complete necessary project management steps to bring projects to completion, including maintaining clear records, tracking project status, and developing processes.
  • Provide departmental leadership on Project Management best practices.
Secondary
  • Learn new areas and best practices in economic development and arts development as the field evolves.
  • Promote the value of the arts, sustainability, small business, economic development, and arts and culture to the local economy.
  • Collect and synthesize information from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion. Incorporate multiple perspectives before reaching a decision.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum knowledge equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field such as Arts Administration, Public Administration, Project Management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience equivalent to over three years in relevant field.
  • Experience of two years in communications management, including experience with Adobe Creative, Canva, Mailchimp, or similar software.
  • Experience in program management skills to strategically develop programs and deliver measurable results, including effective meeting facilitation.
  • Ability to design, implement, and manage projects and to direct the resources, personnel, and activities to successful completion.
  • Ability to build strategic work relationships and collaborations to leverage existing resources to meet overall organizational needs and goals.
  • Ability to perform budget planning and reporting.

Work is performed in a modern office environment with no unusual physical demands. Occasional overtime, as well as attendance at occasional evening or weekend meetings, hearings, and events, is required. Incumbent plans, coordinates, and conducts multi-phase projects; manages concurrent projects; and maintains complex records. Work is performed on site.

Personal Work Relationships

Position requires frequent communication with local organizations, media, and members of the general public for purposes of coordinating departmental initiatives and conveying related information. Contact occurs during varied situations and circumstances, often requiring tact and use of persuasion to gain cooperation in the face of differences of opinion.
