Overview

INDIANA MEMORIAL UNION (BA-IMAU-IUBLA) – The Office of Student Life focuses on building a foundation to ensure every student’s Indiana University (IU) experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff help students navigate their time at IU and provide tools needed to be successful. The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) serves as the community center for the IU Bloomington campus, with a mission to build a sense of belonging and community.

The Union hosts more than 10,000 meetings and events per year and supports student organizations and programs through its Student Involvement and Leadership Center. It is a popular place to gather for food and drink, studying, bowling or pool, or socializing, and is one of the most visited spaces on campus.

The Part-Time Custodian is responsible for the safety and sanitization of the Indiana Memorial Union and adheres to policies and procedures to maintain the facility at a high standard for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

• Cleans building floors, ramps, and stairs by sweeping, wet/dust mopping, cleaning carpets, or vacuuming. Strips, seals, finishes, and polishes/buffs/burnishes a variety of floors.
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms. Gather and empty trash. Disinfect and sanitize frequently touched surfaces. Clean meeting rooms.
• Lock, unlock, and secure buildings. Maintain awareness of buildings and facilities and report abnormalities or security concerns. Identify and report needed building repairs.
• Performs blood borne pathogen cleaning with proper certified training.
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using chemical cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. Dust furniture and walls.
• Mix water and chemicals or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
• Learn to operate our equipment.
• Clean and remove snow from sidewalks.

• Required: General knowledge at the high school level

• Preferred: Custodial experience

• Ability to interact and communicate with a wide variety of people
• Ability to perform work that requires medium to heavy physical effort
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to work in a team environment and perform work in a safe and efficient manner
• Ability to use a computer to complete online training
• Ability to maintain good attendance

We are recruiting for 2 shifts. Indiana University Bloomington. This is an in-person position. $13.10 per hour.

Shift 1: 1:00pm – 9:30pm, with the possibility of some weekend work.

Shift 2: 5:00am – 1:30pm, with weekend work.
