Overview

CAPITAL PLANNING (UA-UART-IUBLA)

Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that Indiana University (IU) campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable while supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. Capital Projects (formerly named the University Architect's Office) provides architectural, interior design, construction management, engineering, and quality assurance and safety services for capital projects on all Indiana University campuses.

Capital Projects staff oversees the creation or modification of any physical facility on any IU campus - whether it’s a building, space within buildings, or campus grounds.

The Project Management Specialist - Research will support the Senior University Architect for Research, Rich Thompson, in delivering research projects in Bloomington. While the intent is that this position will specifically focus on building a research portfolio in Bloomington, the position will also on occasion assist with other project efforts as needed in Bloomington and across other campuses. This position is central to coordinating design efforts, managing timelines and budgets, engaging with users, and coordinating the efforts of consultants and contractors throughout the design and construction process.

Responsibilities
  • Manages medium to large projects, from start to finish, ensuring on time completion within budget.
  • Develops project plan(s) and efficiently analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfalls.
  • Coordinates and facilitates efforts of project team(s) consisting of various staff and hourly employees.
  • Communicates ongoing changes in tasks, goals, or performance.
  • Collaborates to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
  • Participates in client meetings, vendor/contract decisions, and development of project requirements and specifications.
  • May provide guidance and support to less experienced peers.
Qualifications and Experience Education
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
Work Experience
  • 2 years of relevant experience.

Physical Requirements

This role requires both sedentary work and the ability to move about, sometimes quickly, for long periods of time. It requires moving heavy objects, providing support for heavy objects, and performing strenuous labor under adverse field conditions. The ability to use tools, operate machinery, and to complete construction projects with precision and accuracy is required. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
