Union Board is IU's largest student programming board and governing body of the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), playing a central role in enhancing student life by planning high‑impact events and serving as the student voice in policy making through shared governance of the IMU. The IMU has been the heart of IU Bloomington for more than 100 years, providing a welcoming place for the IU community and a gateway for visitors.
ProgramCoordinator Overview
The Program Coordinator for Union Board supports student‑led programming efforts to create dynamic and engaging experiences for the IU Bloomington community. This role advises and mentors student leaders, facilitates leadership development, and ensures the successful implementation of Union Board programs. By collaborating across campus, the Program Coordinator strengthens student involvement, fosters leadership growth, and enhances the overall student experience through innovative events and initiatives.
Department‑SpecificResponsibilities
- Advise the Indiana Memorial Union Board of Directors and work directly with students in a collaborative relationship.
- Support Union Board student leaders in developing, planning, and executing high‑quality campus programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and student interests.
- Foster student leadership development through mentorship, training, and guidance on event management, budgeting, marketing, and operational best practices.
- Ensure compliance with university policies related to student organizations, event planning, and financial management.
- Serve as a strategic partner in the execution of the long‑term vision of the Indiana Memorial Union Board.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program (retreats, workshops) for Union Board student directors and committee members in coordination with executive leadership and SILC staff.
- Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of programs through student feedback, assessment tools, and data analysis, using insights to refine future initiatives.
- Support marketing and outreach efforts, ensuring broad student engagement and participation in Union Board activities.
- Help develop future leaders in student affairs and higher education.
- Supervise a graduate assistant and student staff, providing mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities to support their growth and success.
- Collaborate with campus partners, departments, and external stakeholders to coordinate resources and partnerships for student‑led initiatives, staying informed on trends in student engagement and campus programming.
- Develop and implement programs and initiatives to improve student engagement and involvement outcomes at the program, division, or campus level.
- Interface directly with students, attend student life events and programs, and gather satisfaction feedback to inform future initiatives.
- Collaborate with staff in own department and other departments, and student organization leaders, on shared student life goals, coordinating funding to sponsor initiatives.
- Measure and evaluate effectiveness of initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepare reports and present findings to stakeholders to secure funding for future initiatives.
