Job Summary
The Program Coordinator for Union Board supports student-led programming efforts to create dynamic and engaging experiences for the IU Bloomington community. This role advises and mentors student leaders, facilitates leadership development, and ensures the successful implementation of Union Board programs. Collaborating across campus, the Program Coordinator strengthens student involvement, fosters leadership growth, and enhances the overall student experience through innovative events and initiatives.
DepartmentSpecific Responsibilities
- Advises for the Indiana Memorial Union Board of Directors and works directly with students in a collaborative relationship.
- Advises and supports Union Board student leaders in developing, planning, and executing high-quality campus programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and student interests.
- Fosters student leadership development through mentorship, training, and guidance on event management, budgeting, marketing, and operational best practices.
- Ensures compliance with university policies related to student organizations, event planning, and financial management.
- Serves as a Strategic Partner in the execution of goals and long-term vision of the Indiana Memorial Union Board.
- Develops and implements in coordination with Union Board executive leadership and the Student Involvement and Leadership Center staff a comprehensive training program (retreats, workshops) for Union Board student directors and committee members.
- Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of programs through student feedback, assessment tools, and data analysis, using insights to refine future initiatives.
- Supports marketing and outreach efforts, ensuring broad student engagement and participation in Union Board activities.
- Helps develop future leaders in student affairs and higher education.
- Supervises a graduate assistant and student staff, providing mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities to support their growth and success.
- Collaborates with campus partners, departments, and external stakeholders to coordinate resources and partnerships for student-led initiatives. Stays informed on trends in student engagement and campus programming, incorporating best practices to enhance student involvement opportunities.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at improving student engagement and involvement outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
- Interfaces directly with students, attending student life events and programs and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student life initiatives and objectives.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared student life goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student life initiatives.
- Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student life initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- Provides guidance to student organizations regarding operations, budget, leadership, activities, recruitment, registration, policies, and compliance. Promotes leadership and student development through advising of individual student leaders and volunteers. Contributes to formation, interpretation, and implementation of student organization policies.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student life initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
- May provide guidance to other Student Life Specialists; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATIONRequired
- Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, education, business, or related field.
Preferred
- Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field.
Required
- 2 years in student services, higher education, arts management, or a related field.

- Experience in planning, organizing, and executing student-led programs, events, and initiatives.
