OFC OF STUDENT FIN ASSISTANCE (BL-OSFA-IUBLA)

The Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) at Indiana University (IU) Bloomington is dedicated to attracting, enrolling, and supporting a community of talented students from Indiana, across the nation, and around the world. OEM integrates strategic planning, data‑informed decision‑making, and collaborative partnerships across campus to create a seamless student experience, from first contact through graduation. The Office of Student Financial Assistance administers federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs for Indiana University Bloomington students. This includes oversight of grants, loans, scholarships, and work‑study opportunities. The team ensures compliance with regulations while promoting access and affordability through effective delivery of financial aid services.

Department‑Specific Responsibilities
  • Performs ongoing review/training
  • Understands federal/state/institutional program policy
  • Ensures accuracy in processing to minimize errors that lead to university fiscal liability
  • Responds to changing job responsibilities due to evolving federal regulations and institutional policy changes
  • Processes documentation to determine financial aid dependency status and other eligibility indicators
  • Compiles and analyzes documentation for professional judgment appeals
  • Processes audits related to appeals and eligibility
  • Monitors and responds to office group email accounts
  • Provides support for in‑person recruitment and outreach efforts
General Responsibilities
  • Serves as an information resource to students, potential students, and their families
  • Explains the policies and procedures involved in applying for financial aid and/or scholarships
  • Processes and monitors files for applications and awards, updates as necessary for accuracy and completeness, and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Responds to email, phone, and in‑person inquiries from applicants regarding status of application
  • Notifies applicant of final decision
  • Monitors financial aid and/or scholarship accounts on a continuing basis
  • Ensures compliance with scholarship requirements
  • Provides administrative and clerical support to department staff including word processing and scheduling
  • Develops and updates written informational materials regarding the policies and procedures involving applications for financial aid and/or scholarships
  • Compiles and analyzes data and prepares various reports
  • Designates and completes audits on a regular basis
  • Identifies situational anomalies that require analysis and/or escalation
  • Takes on complex or escalated customer issues, referring to manager as appropriate
  • May provide guidance to other financial aid/scholarship coordinators
  • May make process recommendations to manager for improved operational efficiency

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

Education Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Work Experience Required
  • 4 years in customer service, office experience, or related field
Preferred
  • Experience working with complex data and/or records services in a team environment
