The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music seeks a passionate and dynamic candidate for a one-year Visiting Lecturer position in the Music in General Studies department, beginning August 1, 2026 and ending May 31, 2027. This is a full-time, ten-month, tenure-ineligible position for a person with significant expertise in teaching popular music.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include teaching three undergraduate courses in music each semester. These classes are filled with general students from numerous disciplines, including business, humanities, public policy, computer science, music minors, musical theater, and many others. Successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach a broad spectrum of American popular music with emphasis on the Blues, rock, pop, current emerging styles, and iconic popular musicians.
Expertise across boundaries is an asset for this position and could include additional capability in other areas, such as onstage performance, music engineering, songwriting, and music technology. The person in this position will be expected to cover many aspects of popular music history and develop courses in their specific area of interest that are appropriate for the non-major audience.
