Overview
Bradford Woods, a department within the Office of Student Life at Indiana University, offers recreational, educational, and leadership development opportunities. Bradford Woods aims to promote learning and respect and to create an environment where every individual feels valued and belongs organization is announcing anticipated part-time positions for Summer 2026, including roles in leadership, program implementation, and cabin life.
The Cabin Life staff implement programs and activities within a cabin and are responsible for the physical, social, and emotional care of a cabin group (approximately 8–10 campers and 3–5 staff).
Responsibilities- Cabin Head
- Lead the cabin community and oversee the overall physical, social, and emotional well-being of the assigned cabin group.
- Serve as the primary leader and point of contact for the cabin.
- Live in the cabins with campers and staff, providing direction, feedback, and supervision to foster a positive and inclusive experience.
- Oversee camper documentation and ensure adherence to Bradford Woods policies and procedures.
- Meet with parents and guardians during check-in and check-out.
- Lead daily cabin meetings and help create a supportive environment for staff and campers.
- Cabin Counselor
- Work directly with children and adults with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses, providing daily care and support while fostering a safe, positive camp experience.
- Live in the cabins with campers and staff, ensuring the physical, social, and emotional needs of each participant are met.
- Assist with activities of daily living and support medical procedures as applicable.
- Collaborate with program staff to adapt activities to participants’ needs and abilities.
- Work with the Cabin Head to complete camper documentation and maintain a safe cabin environment.
- Education
- Required:
High school diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED). - Preferred:
Some college experience.

- Bradford Woods camp experience or similar medical camp, or experience in special education or nursing (preferred).
- Licenses and Certifications
- Required:
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications upon date of hire.
- Required:
- Clear and effective communication; ability to guide and mentor youth.
- Strong critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to design engaging activities adaptable to different ages and abilities.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced camp environment and collaborate with staff.
- Commitment to participant safety and wellbeing; willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to perform camper personal care and activities of daily living as needed.
This is an active, hands-on role requiring physical mobility and stamina. The role may involve moving objects up to 50 pounds, and transfers and team movements may be needed to support camper access and participation. Roles may require working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures with loud noises; some overnight duties are required due to the residential nature of the camps.
The position requires living on-site.
Martinsville, Indiana — This is an in-person, on-site position with a weekly pay range of $400.00 – $450.00, depending on the position. Room and board are provided in addition to salary. A flat weekly pay rate is prorated for missed days.
