Perform maintenance on complex processing and high‑speed packaging machinery, including gear boxes, variable speed drives, pumps, compressors, dust collecting equipment, code daters, and check weighers. Maintain, repair, lubricate, and troubleshoot these systems while ensuring safety and cGMP compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Install, operate, maintain, repair, lubricate, and troubleshoot complex processing and high‑speed packaging machinery and other equipment such as gear boxes, variable speed drives, pumps, compressors, dust collecting equipment, code daters, check weighers, etc.
- Perform predictive and preventative maintenance activities as outlined in the CMMS system.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot all types of A/C and D/C electrical equipment.
- Fabricate components using standard shop equipment including lathe, mill, drill press, brake, shear, band saw, and various welding equipment.
- Operate production equipment to validate completed maintenance activity.
- Assist Engineering in installing new equipment, using drawings, verbal instructions and/or sketches.
- Work with technical support, operations group, and peer mechanics to resolve machine or personnel issues.
- Maintain spare parts inventory, checking out parts from the parts room, using the parts ordering procedure and restocking inventory.
- Keep shop areas and parts room clean and orderly.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives; recommend and implement improvement ideas.
- Occasionally perform work in other areas such as building maintenance.
- Comply with safety and cGMP requirements, follow LO/TO procedures, and wear required personal protective equipment.
Education and Experience
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent with a minimum of two years of related experience, or five years of related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of machine troubleshooting, electrical, mechanical, fabrication, pneumatics, hydraulics, OSHA standards, cGMP, lock‑out/tag‑out.
- Food or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to repair packaging and processing production equipment within one year of employment. Solid knowledge of machine capabilities and manufacturing processes. Ability to train and mentor other employees, consistently meet quality, safety, and efficiency goals. Strong problem‑solving, organizational, planning, prioritization, urgency, independent decision‑making skills, and flexibility. Excellent teamwork and communication skills, strong attention to detail.
Skills and Abilities- Basic computer skills.
- Understanding of company priorities and core values.
- Read and understand electrical and mechanical blueprints, shop math, electrical codes.
- Understand theory of operation of processing and high‑speed packaging equipment.
- Familiar with PLC, solid state, and servo control.
- Working knowledge of electrical test equipment (digital multimeter, amp probe, megger, etc.).
- Ability to work other shifts and weekends; travel to other facilities.
Regular standing, moving, manual handling, reaching, ladders, stair climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling. Lifting up to 60 lbs from floor to waist and from 31 inches; push/pull 42 lbs at 36 inches.
Work EnvironmentExposure to moving mechanical parts, herbal aromas, dust, airborne particles, equipment, packaging. Occasional high, precarious places, outside weather, fumes, cold, heat. Requires travel to other facilities. Moderately loud noise, hearing protection may be required.
