The Fiber Assembly Technician is a senior-level production role responsible for expert assembly, inspection, and testing of high‑fiber‑count cable assemblies (e.g., 1728 fibers). This position requires extensive technical knowledge, precision, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively on complex fiber‑optic products. It also serves as a subject‑matter expert, mentor, and quality lead within the production team.
Responsibilities- Assemble high‑fiber‑count cable products according to work instructions, verbal instruction, drawings, and/or diagrams using advanced tools, fixtures, and techniques.
- Interpret and execute complex work instructions, engineering drawings, and process documentation.
- Perform precision tasks such as ribbonizing, high‑density connectorization, and testing.
- Conduct IL/RL testing and visual inspection to ensure compliance with stringent quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to fiber routing, polarity, and continuity.
- Serve as a technical mentor and trainer for junior assemblers.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and planning teams to improve processes and resolve issues.
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives within the fiber assembly cell.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Require use of hands to grasp, grip, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequently walk across the production floor.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus and distinguish between colors.
- 20% clerical and planning and 80% material handling, production assembly, machine operations, and/or walking and assisting employees.
- Noise levels may be moderate or high; hearing protection may be required.

- Potential exposure to fluctuating temperatures and hot surfaces.
- May stand or sit for prolonged periods and may be required to complete repetitive tasks.

- Read and interpret complex technical documents and blueprints.
- Strong manual dexterity and proficiency with fiber‑handling tools, microscopes, and test equipment.
- Identify process inefficiencies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Attention to Detail – Ensure accuracy in work product, documentation, and processes to maintain high standards.
- Communication – Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers, internal and external customers, and key stakeholders.
- Problem‑Solver – Strong problem‑solving skills to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
- High School education or equivalent.
- Prior testing, training, or quality inspection experience required.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a production environment.
- Fiber assembly or related field experience requiring precision and tight tolerances preferred.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in assembly, problem solving, and safety procedures.
