Make an impact in the community by joining the Stormwater Team. The Stormwater Division is responsible for managing and improving our local water resources as we work to reduce pollution, prevent flooding, and ensure clean waterways.

The Sweeping and Drainage team is looking to hire a Streets Technician III to conduct skilled work in the maintenance of the City and County of Broomfield’s streets/stormwater drainage, focusing on street sweeping and drainage system maintenance.

Total Compensation Package
  • Hiring Range: $31.26 - $36.78/hour

Responsibilities
  • Acts as a troubleshooter to resolve problems within a particular area of assignment.
  • Under the direction of the Streets Foreman, complete daily and weekly work schedules.
  • May assume responsibility for division activities during the absence of a Foreman.
  • Provides on-the-job instruction and orientation to lower-level personnel as assigned.
  • Assists in major maintenance and repairs to division equipment.
  • Supervise contractual work at the direction of Streets Foreman.
  • Removal of debris and trash including weed eradication.
  • Storm drainage cleaning and grate repair
  • Maintain and repair drop inlets
  • Maintain drainage channels
  • Ditch and open drainage maintenance and repair including concrete ditches
  • Street sweeping
  • Maintain and replace side brooms and main brooms
  • Conduct inspections of channels and drainage areas and sweeping areas for remediation, fixing, or reporting
  • Respond to requests of drainage issues or spills
  • Clean and maintain shop building and grounds.
  • Assists in the operation of snowplows during inclement weather.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Use hand tools to complete maintenance work.
  • Retrieves, completes, and documents work orders using computer-based systems while maintaining accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and related stormwater data.
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
    -required
Experience
  • 3 years of experience in any of the Streets Maintenances operational areas (including road and bridge maintenance, sweeping and drainage, and/or traffic control)
  • Some lead/supervisory experience - preferred
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, DMV check, and pre-placement physical and drug screen.

  • Certifications - required with 6 months of hire
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tanker endorsement
  • Flagger’s Certification
  • Work involves on-call duty which requires working weekends on a rotating basis and working all hours during emergency repairs as needed
  • Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some weekend and holiday work required
  • Required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Required to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Required to talk or hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist from the upper body; use hands and/or feet to perform manual tasks such as digging; push or pull; reach with hands and arms; squat; stoop; crouch; and climb or balance
  • Physical demands are described as Very Heavy Work (Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects)
  • Requires walking or standing to a significant degree
  • Work near moving mechanical parts
  • Work in year-round outdoor weather conditions
  • Use hand tools to complete maintenance work
