Hybrid Engine Calibration Engineer

Location:

Chelsea, MI

We are seeking a Hybrid Calibration Engineer to join our Electrified Powertrain team, playing a pivotal role in the development and optimization of hybrid control systems from early‑stage simulation to production launch. This position is instrumental in shaping the performance, efficiency, and reliability of the next generation of FCAs hybrid and electric vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead calibration development using Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) simulators, powertrain dynometers, and test vehicles.
  • Optimize and validate hybrid control systems for production readiness.
  • Conduct calibration reviews and support Center of Excellence (CoE) team discussions.
  • Guide calibration teams through daily activities, issue resolution, and best practices.
  • Review and validate new calibrations introduced via software change requests (SWCRs).
  • Oversee first‑run commissioning of new powertrain architectures on HIL and dyno setups.
  • Collaborate with controls engineers to ensure feature functionality and efficiency.
  • Provide training on hybrid vehicle operation and calibration tools to new engineers.
  • Support development test trips and communicate findings to senior management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues using tools such as GIMS and PITS.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment focused on shared success.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Hands‑on experience with electrified powertrain calibration or embedded controls (BEV or Hybrid).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a creative mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high‑quality results.
  • In‑depth knowledge of powertrain systems and disciplined calibration processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership in engaging stakeholders and driving project success.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with INCA/calibration tools.
  • Proficiency with control system development tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, GT‑Power).
  • Experience in powertrain control algorithm development and OBD/embedded software.
  • Solid understanding of internal combustion engine fundamentals.
  • Background in engine/transmission design, development, or systems engineering.
