Senior Dams Engineer / Practice Leader

Description: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Dams Engineer / Practice Leader, with a strategic focus on the New York City metro region. This leadership role combines technical expertise with strong business development acumen. The ideal candidate will have proven success in securing, managing, and delivering complex water infrastructure projects and be excited to expand market share in one of the nation’s most critical and complex water markets.
EssentialResponsibilities & Duties
- Collaborate with existing practitioners and growth leaders to develop the overall strategy and vision to reinforce and expand the metro NY Dams Practice
- Identify, develop, pursue, and win opportunities with new and existing clients within New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, the East region, and nationwide
- Plan, coordinate, direct, and supervise design teams for the inspection, evaluation, and design of water infrastructure projects such as dams, levees, spillways, outlet works, hydroelectric facilities, and other appurtenant structures
- Provide technical input and oversight in one or more of the following disciplines: civil, structural, geotechnical, water resources, hydrology & hydraulics, mechanical
- Resolve complex issues to benefit our clients
- Manage local, regional, and national projects
- Manage project teams that include 10 or more members, often representing multiple services and subconsultants
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; MS preferred
- 20+ years of experience in design, project management, and construction of dams, levees, flood management systems, and/or hydropower projects
- Registered professional civil engineer in New York
- Ability to work with limited supervision; organized; energetic and enthusiastic; and ability to build productive working relationships within the firm and with project teams
- Understanding of regulatory and permitting environment in New York and surrounding states (NYDEC, NYCDEP, NJDEP, USACE, FERC, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated experience in pursuing and winning opportunities for water clients in the metro NY region
- Strong reputation in the metro NY market for dams, levees, flood control structures and/or hydropower services
- Experience in water resource engineering with large civil works projects such as dams, levees, flood walls, canals, penstocks, and related structures
- Ability to supervise and direct junior staff

WORK ENVIRONMENT Functional demands are primarily sedentary with occasional light and medium physical activity. Activities may include sitting (6–8 hours), standing (0–1 hour), walking (0–1 hour), lifting (0–10 lbs at floor to waist, 0–10 lbs at waist and above), carrying objects (0–1 hour), push/pull, twisting, bending, and reaching (forward & overhead). This role may require minimal sensory requirements and exposure to blood borne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, extreme temperatures, radiation, uneven surfaces, and extreme noise levels.
