The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic nuclear medicine exams while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and patient care. This role includes preparing and positioning patients, administering isotopes, monitoring scans, evaluating images, and assisting radiologists as needed. The technologist ensures patient comfort by explaining procedures, radiation safety, and medications, while adhering to all regulatory and safety guidelines. Additionally, they support scheduling, documentation, and departmental operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs nuclear medicine exams according to established protocols, maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and productivity. Operates NM equipment and associated computer systems, including RIS and PACS, with proficiency.

  • Reviews requisitions, obtains patient histories, prepares and positions patients, administers isotopes, monitors patients during scans, evaluates image quality, and assists radiologists as needed. Adheres to OSHA and NRC guidelines for radiation safety and proper recordkeeping.

  • Provides compassionate patient care by explaining procedures, radiation safety, medications, and positioning, reducing anxiety and ensuring cooperation. Demonstrates proficient IV skills and EKG lead placement, tracking patients from exam start through discharge.

  • Supports non‑technical protocol processes, including verifying patient prep, monitoring requisitions, coordinating with referring providers, ensuring accurate documentation and scheduling, and collaborating with support teams as needed.

  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of scan and dressing rooms, monitors supplies, and performs recordkeeping and data entry.

  • Participates in departmental meetings and duties, promotes teamwork, demonstrates flexibility, professional judgment, and adherence to policies, including HIPAA, OSHA, compliance, licensing, and accreditation standards.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • CNMT or ARRT Nuclear Medicine Certification (Required)

  • CPR (BLS) Certification (Required)

  • Must be proficient in venipuncture proficiency.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of cardiac EKG set‑up, QA procedures regarding maintenance of hot lab and imaging devices and the function and use of ADAC/Philips equipment.

  • Prior relevant work experience, required.

  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills and patient care skills.

  • Computer experience required.
