Overview
Financial Controller ($150,000 - $160,000) - Windsor, CT
Position Summary
The Financial Controller is a senior financial leader responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial activities at the manufacturing plant level. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, cost control, and actionable financial insights to support operational decision-making. The Plant Controller partners closely with plant leadership to drive profitability, efficiency, and compliance.
Responsibilities- Financial Management & Reporting
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close for the plant, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
- Prepare and analyze plant financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Provide detailed variance analysis (actuals vs. budget/forecast) and communicate insights to plant and corporate leadership.
- Cost Accounting & Operations Support
- Lead cost accounting activities including standard costing, inventory valuation, absorption, and variance analysis.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs (labor, materials, overhead) and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
- Partner with operations to evaluate capital investments, process improvements, and productivity initiatives.
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual plant budget and rolling forecasts in collaboration with operations and corporate finance.
- Track performance against budget and forecast, highlighting risks and opportunities.
- Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls over financial processes.
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Serve as primary plant contact for internal and external audits; prepare audit schedules and resolve findings.
- Inventory & Working Capital
- Oversee inventory accounting, physical counts, cycle counts, and reconciliation.
- Drive working capital improvements, including inventory turns, receivables, and payables management.
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop plant accounting staff (as applicable).
- Act as a strategic business partner to the Plant Manager and leadership team.
- Collaborate with corporate finance, supply chain, and operations teams to align financial and operational goals.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in a manufacturing or plant environment.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and standard costing.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Net Suite).
Preferred
- CPA, CMA, or MBA.
- Prior experience as a Plant Controller or senior manufacturing accountant.
- Experience supporting capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to translate financial data into operational insights
