The Process Engineer – Materials is responsible for driving continuous improvement using 5S/Lean manufacturing tools. The engineer will be expected to identify waste, streamline processes and adjust machinery layout to enhance safety, quality and throughput. Day-to-day activities will be geared towards improving productivity-to-plan, reducing high-runner item cost, and increasing 5S Audit scores.

Duties/ Responsibilities
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and lead Lean initiatives to reduce waste, improve flow, and increase productivity.
  • Conduct time studies, value‑stream mapping, and bottleneck analyses to guide improvement projects.
  • Develop future‑state process flows and layouts using Lean principles to improve space utilization and reduce motion/transport waste.
  • Lead layout changes, workstation redesigns, and equipment moves to improve ergonomics and material accessibility.
  • Standardize material‑related work practices and contribute to standard work documentation and training.
  • KPIs include Productivity % To Plan, Item Cost Reduction %, and 5S Audit Score results
Required skills/ Abilities
  • Strong, proven experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a process engineer in similar industry (materials manufacturing).
  • Experience with IATF/ISO standards preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and test results.
Education and Experience
  • BS in materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Mechanical Engineer with a concentration in Materials Science, or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Professional certification in Six Sigma (at least green belt) required.
  • Must have experience with AutoCAD or similar layout program
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
