Job Description
This position requires work on semi‑routine assignments where the ability to recognize deviations from accepted practices is essential. Responsibilities include working with free‑space optical components, operating laser beam analyzers, optical power meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, and supporting Lean initiatives (3S weekly & 6S monthly). The role emphasizes a strong sense of safety, continuous improvement, and creative problem‑solving while working under minimal supervision.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Work on assignments that are semi‑routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required
- Work with free-space optical components
- Maintain a mind‑set to constantly pursue the basic understanding or root cause of problems and to continually improve
- Be detail oriented with well‑refined troubleshooting skills while working under minimal supervision
- Self‑motivate and maintain effectiveness in working several tasks in parallel, bringing each to conclusion in a timely manner
- Manage personal time and organize work efficiently
- Communicate and interact effectively with cross‑functional groups
- Learn quickly and demonstrate aptitude for growth and development
- Be responsive and reliable – can be counted on by others
- Participate in identifying creative solutions/approaches to problems
- Operate laser beam analyzers, optical power meters, power supplies and oscilloscopes
- Support Lean Initiatives including 3S weekly & 6S monthly activities
- Ensure a safe work environment and cultivate safe behaviors
- Other duties as business needs require
- Technical Associate’s degree or Certificate in Laser Electro‑Optics or related discipline + 0 years of experience – OR – 1+ years of closely related opto‑mechanical, electronics assembly, or test experience
- Mechanical and Electrical Assembly experience required
- Ability to follow work instructions and interpret optical / electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, engineering plans and specifications
- Approximately 4 years’ experience with hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, vacuum systems, and electrical equipment
- Experience testing digital and/or analog systems
- Ability to read drawings and use measurement instruments
- Knowledge of laser components preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel) required
- Ability to work on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring sound judgment in troubleshooting, resolving issues and providing recommendations
- Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to effectively interact with cross‑functional groups
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs on occasion
