Support Worker - Blandford Forum

£13.50-£14.00 per hour | Full-time & Part-time | Day, Night & Waking Night Shifts

If you're driven by purpose and want a role where you can genuinely change the lives of children and young people, this is an opportunity to make a real impact every single day.

The Role

As a Support Worker, you'll be part of a dedicated team providing care, education, and therapeutic support to children and young people aged 8-18 with a wide range of complex needs. This includes Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome (AS), moderate to severe learning disabilities, challenging behaviours, and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). Many of the children we support have experienced significant trauma, including neglect, abuse, exploitation, or disrupted attachments.

You'll be working within specialist residential homes that are closely supported by our specialist schools and colleges. These settings are designed to meet the needs of a discrete cohort of young people who require consistent, structured, and compassionate support. Your role will be central to helping them feel safe, understood, and able to progress emotionally, socially, and educationally.

Day Shift Responsibilities
  • Supporting children within the classroom environment
  • Encouraging engagement, participation, and positive learning experiences
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and care teams to meet individual needs
Night Shift Responsibilities
  • Assisting with homework and evening routines
  • Carrying out household tasks such as cleaning and organisation
  • Providing a calm, reassuring presence throughout the night
Waking Night Responsibilities
  • Offering pastoral support and emotional reassurance
  • Providing personal care where required
  • Monitoring wellbeing and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment
What We're Looking For

We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds, but experience in managing challenging behaviour is essential for this role. You'll need to be confident, resilient, and able to respond calmly and safely in moments of heightened emotion or distress.

You'll thrive in this role if you are:

  • Patient, compassionate, and emotionally aware
  • Confident supporting children with diverse and complex needs
  • Skilled in de-escalation and behaviour management
  • Calm under pressure and adaptable to changing situations
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Reliable, motivated, and committed to safeguarding
