3 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary
  • The Child Protection Social Worker (Blandford) will work within a multi-agency team delivering statutory child protection services in Dorset.
  • This role focuses on supporting children and families subject to complex Child in Need and Child Protection plans, pre-proceedings, and court processes.
  • The post-holder will chair child protection conferences, provide expert statutory guidance, and ensure the welfare of children remains central to all interventions.
  • This role is suitable for candidates who have completed their ASYE and have at least three years’ post-qualification experience in Children’S Services.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample)
  • Deliver services in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation.
  • Undertake assessments of children’s needs and develop effective, timely plans.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people.
  • Provide support, information, and advice to families to build self-reliance.
  • Prepare reports for meetings and courts, attending to give evidence when required.
  • Chair multi-agency meetings and child protection conferences, supporting collaborative planning.
  • Maintain accurate records on core computer systems and ensure data quality.
  • Work alongside Lead Family Help Practitioners, providing child protection expertise and leading statutory work.
  • Undertake direct work with children and families to progress plans.
  • Conduct specialist assessments following appropriate training.
  • Participate in professional development, supervision, and partnership workforce events.
Skills/Experience
  • Minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience in Children’S Services.
  • Experience in Child Protection, Child in Need, pre-proceedings, and court proceedings.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory legislation, safeguarding, and the Children’S Social Worker Framework.
  • Ability to deliver complex court reports and participate in legal proceedings.
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and multi-agency collaboration skills.
  • Ability to chair meetings and facilitate family-inclusive planning.
  • Competent in record-keeping and use of electronic case management systems.
  • Knowledge and application of restorative practice, motivational interviewing, and strength-based approaches.
Additional Information
  • Social Work degree (CQSW, DIPSW, or equivalent) and Social Work England registration.
  • Full-time (37 hours), flexible working considered.
  • Post requires significant travel; access to a vehicle or suitable transport is essential.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance required.
  • This post involves working with children and vulnerable adults and access to sensitive information.
